5. Our Fulfilment Methods & Your Data
To provide a wide range of products and ensure efficient delivery, we use a combination of UK-based and international fulfilment partners. The method used depends on the specific product you order.
A) Products Shipped from our UK Warehouse
For certain products, we use a UK-based warehouse and logistics partner. For these orders, we share your delivery details (Name, Address, Phone Number) with our UK partner to ship your item. In this case, your personal data remains within the United Kingdom and is processed in line with UK data protection laws.
B) Products Shipped from International Suppliers (Dropshipping)
Other products are shipped directly to you from our international suppliers, who are primarily located in China. To enable this, we partner with a professional fulfilment platform (such as CJdropshipping).
When you order one of these products, we securely transmit your delivery details to our fulfilment platform. The platform then passes the necessary information (Name, Address, Phone Number) to the specific supplier who will ship the product.
Our Legal Safeguards for International Transfers:
The UK GDPR requires specific safeguards for transferring personal data to countries, like China, that do not have a UK “adequacy decision.”
Our relationship with our fulfilment platform is governed by a Data Processing Addendum (DPA) which incorporates Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). These are legally-binding contracts approved by the UK’s data protection authority.
This means our fulfilment platform is contractually obligated to ensure that all its international suppliers handle your data according to UK GDPR standards and that your data is protected throughout the entire order and delivery process.
6. Data Security
We have put in place appropriate technical and organisational security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way. These measures include using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt our website and restricting access to your personal data to those employees and third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your data on our instructions and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.
7. Data Retention
We will only retain your personal data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting requirements. By law, we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial, and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for UK tax purposes.
8. Your Legal Rights
Under UK data protection law, you have rights including:
- Right of access: To ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right of rectification: To ask us to correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
- Right to erasure (the “right to be forgotten”): To ask us to delete your data where there is no good reason for us to continue processing it.
- Right to restrict processing: To ask us to suspend the processing of your data in certain scenarios.
- Right to object to processing: Where we are relying on a legitimate interest as our lawful basis.
- Right to data portability: To ask for your data to be transferred to you or another service provider in a common, machine-readable format.
- Right to withdraw consent: At any time, where we are relying on consent to process your data (e.g., for marketing).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@worldwidechoices.com. We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity.
You also have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s supervisory authority for data protection issues (www.ico.org.uk). We would, however, appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please contact us in the first instance.
